Journalists Matter, Council of Europe Campaign for the Safety of Journalists
The Council of Europe encourages member states to transpose the Campaign to the national context. Without each member’s committed and effective effort at national level, through the development of the so-called ‘national chapter’, the Campaign cannot reach its goals.
In this section, we will present developments in Romania:
National Focal Point
Mr Mircea TOMA, National Audiovisual Council of Romania (CNA) Council Member
National Campaign Committee
In Romania, ongoing discussions for the creation of a consortium of organisations for the national chapter the campaign are exploring the will to participation to the most relevant governmental and nongovernmental organisations. Among these:
ActiveWatch, nonprofit media watch organization.
Mediasind, the Romanian Union of Journalists
The Ministry of the Interior
The Ministry of Justice
Superior Council of Magistrats
Ministry of research, innovation and digitalization.
Up to the end of this year, the consortium of organisations will be structured and will have its first outputs for the journalists’ protection. The main relevant public institutions (mentioned above) will be contacted and invited to join the platform and will define the strategy of the “Journalists matter” campaign.
