The project “Integration of European standards in the Ukrainian Media Environment” funded by the Government of Canada (DFATD – Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development) as successfully completed on 30 April 2015.

The completed project can be characterised as productive and successful cooperation between Ukrainian media professionals and Council of Europe team in Kyiv and Strasbourg. It has directly promoted and positively influenced freedom of expression and information in Ukraine, in particular in aligning the Ukrainian legal media framework with European standards. The most recent example was the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the Law on Public Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine.

The new project proposal has been prepared and submitted for further consideration. The proposed project should focus on the aspects that were not covered by the current project and at the same time ensure its logical continuation by providing support the establishment of a genuinely independent media, free from any political control or influence and to the creation of a truly pluralistic and diverse media landscape.
