Conference: “United around gender equality: making space for women and girls

The Gender Equality Strategy 2024–2029 was launched on 30 May 2024 in Strasbourg, at the “United around gender equality: making space for women and girls” conference organised under the Lithuanian presidency of the Committee of Ministers. This high-level event, opened by Justina Jakštienė, Vice-Minister of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania and Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, highlighted the Council of Europe member States’ strong political commitment to address the numerous and multifaceted challenges to gender equality, as expressed in the Reykjavik Declaration, and focused on a youth perspective to advance gender equality. 
Internationally renowned feminist campaigner, Caroline Criado Perez, author of INVISIBLE WOMEN: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, delivered the keynote speech. The morning session launched the new Gender Equality Strategy 2024-2029 whereas the afternoon marked the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Istanbul Convention and its impact in practice.
