Legal experts and civil society representatives from nine cities in Türkiye are now equipped with key legal strategies to effectively use litigation as a tool to protect and promote women’s rights.

This achievement follows an online training session held on 25 October 2024, attended by 13 participants (10 women, 3 men) to deepen their knowledge of strategic litigation, focusing specifically on improving access to justice for women in vulnerable situations. The session provided in-depth insights into key legal strategies, while practical examples were presented from Turkish landmark cases to illustrate how strategic litigation can drive systemic change. A dynamic discussion followed, with participants exploring ways to apply these strategies in real-world contexts.

The event was part of a broader initiative to empower legal professionals and civil society actors to utilise litigation as a tool for promoting and protecting women's rights in Türkiye.

The event was organised by the joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Fostering women’s access to justice in Türkiye” and the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Programme “Promoting good governance and Roma empowerment at local level (ROMACTED II)”.
