On 24 May 2024 an online round table was organised to discuss protection of the rights of refugees, migrants and asylum seeking women and girls, as outlined in the Council of Europe Recommendation on protecting the rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls, adopted by Ukraine in 2022. The event presented the new practical "Guide to the implementation of the Council of Europe Recommendation on Protecting the rights of Migrant, Refugee and Asylum-Seeking Women and Girls". This guide aims to support legislators, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders involved in policy making such as academics, civil society organisations and human rights agencies to implement the Recommendation. 24 representatives from the Ministry of Social Policy, Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Social Service of Ukraine, civil society organisations and legal professionals joined the discussions. .
Celebrating the second anniversary of ratification of the Istanbul Convention by Ukraine in 2022, and in advance of the GREVIO evaluation and monitoring of the implementation of the Istanbul Convention by Ukraine, the Council of Europe also presented the “Guidelines on Reporting for GREVIO Evaluations”. This covers the entire procedure from initiation to the issuance of the final GREVIO report, as well as the Committee of the Parties’ recommendations.
Both publications are essential tools for local and international decision-makers working on prevention and combating violence against women and protection of women’s rights in Ukraine, and assist in the preparation for monitoring the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in member states, including Ukraine.
The event was organised as part of the Council of Europe project “Combating violence against women in Ukraine – Phase II” (COVAW-II).
