Working Group on developing positive narratives in the context of anti-gender movements
The Working Group on positive narratives in the context of anti-gender movements is tasked with developing effective positive narratives to promote gender equality and to combat violence against women in the context of anti-gender movements. The Working Group was established by the Gender Equality Commission at its 26th meeting (19-21 November 2024). It will carry out its work in 2025, and the Gender Equality Commission (GEC) will adopt the result of its work at its 28th plenary meeting (18-20 November 2025).
This work takes place in the framework of the Terms of Reference of the GEC. It is also a deliverable under Strategic Objective 5 of the Gender Equality Strategy for 2024-2029 (Ensuring women’s empowerment and gender equality in relation to global and geopolitical challenges). It is undertaken in response to the growing influence of anti-gender movements in Europe, which challenge existing gender equality standards and policies and impedes further progress.
