Council of Europe evaluates anti-corruption progress in Romania

The Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) today published a report on Romania assessing progress made in implementing the recommendations issued to the country in the Fourth Round Evaluation Report in 2015 on preventing corruption in members of parliament, judges and prosecutors and under the ad hoc Rule 34 Procedure introduced in 2018 addressing concerns brought about by a series of judicial reforms in 2017.

GRECO concludes that Romania has satisfactorily implemented eight of the thirteen recommendations set out in the Fourth Round Evaluation Report and has fully implemented all recommendations in the follow-up to the ad hoc (Rule 34) Report. GRECO invites Romania to implement the remaining recommendations over the next 12 months. In accordance with Rule 31 revised, paragraph 9, of its Rules of Procedure, GRECO calls on the head of the delegation of Romania to submit additional information with regard to the implementation of all recommendations by 30 June 2025.
