A delegation from the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) of the Council of Europe visited the Slovak Republic on 18 and 19 February 2025 to conduct an ad hoc urgent evaluation of recent criminal law reforms resulting in amendments to the Criminal Code, the suppression of the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office as well as the restructuring of the National Crime Agency from the perspective of the fight against corruption and of the compliance of the Slovak Republic with the Council of Europe’s anti-corruption standards.
This urgent evaluation was conducted under Rule 34 of GRECO’s Rules of Procedure, which allows for an ad hoc procedure in exceptional circumstances.
During the visit, GRECO’s delegation met with government representatives, parliamentarians, legal and judicial professionals, civil society organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.
The delegation will now prepare a report for discussion at GRECO’s plenary meeting in June 2025.
