Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: recognition of the heritage importance of historic gardens

Since 2020, the Ministry of Culture of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has successfully participated in the "Rendez-vous in Garden" promoted by the HEREIN network at European level and as part of the 2024 edition, the park of the castle of residence of H.R.H. the Grand Duke of Luxembourg will open its doors to visitors .

This awareness of historic gardens as cultural heritage has generated such awareness that the 2023-2028 Coalition Agreement for the formation of the new Luxembourg Government explicitly considers their importance and will ensure future concrete actions from it for their protection and enhancement.

The agreement in question states that "Historic sites are part of Luxembourg's cultural identity. The Government will endeavour to enhance their value, link them together and make them more visible on the tourist map by developing direct links with other actors in the country's regions. In this context, the Government will support the promotion of historic sites and ensure that the cultural specificities of the regions are enhanced. The historic gardens are an integral part of this historical richness. The Government will ensure that the efforts of individuals and institutions working to preserve these sites are recognized.”
