EduTalks@Council of Europe- Research and academic integrity

Research and academic integrity are crucial for ensuring that knowledge is produced ethically, credibly and shared transparently. Policymakers, higher education institutions, and educators play significant roles in upholding these values, fostering a culture of integrity while balancing institutional autonomy, academic freedom, and legal compliance.

As the academic landscape evolves with innovations like Open Science and Artificial Intelligence, maintaining integrity becomes increasingly important. Proactive measures are essential to prevent and counter misconduct such as plagiarism and intellectual property threats. By adapting to present challenges and strengthening ethical standards, we can ensure that scholarly efforts remain honest and transparent.

The upcoming EduTalk@CoE on the importance of Research and Academic Integrity, will provide insights and explore strategies for promoting ethical conduct in scientific research. During this event, our renowned moderator Ms. Sabine Chai, OeAWI, and speakers Dr. Loreta Tauginienė, ENRIO, Prof. Krista Varantola, former Chair of TENK and  Chair of the Drafting Group for the ALLEA European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity 2023, and Mr. James Parry, UKRIO, will share their perspectives on some of the key questions, such as:

What role does education play in fostering research integrity, and how can it be effectively integrated into educational curricula?
How can researchers, institutions, and policymakers collaborate to promote research integrity and address misconduct effectively?
What are the challenges and strategies for incentivising research integrity within academic institutions?
This EduTalk aims to explore how education, policy development, and institutional support are key in cultivating a culture of research integrity and what are practical implications for policymakers in implementing these strategies effectively.

Join us on Zoom to join the next discussion as part of the EduTalks@CouncilofEurope series on Monday, June 17 at 11:00 CET to gain insights into these questions and participate in a thought-provoking discussion that will help shape the future of research integrity. The Council of Europe Education Department welcomes policymakers, researchers, education professionals, and anyone interested in the role of research and academic integrity in shaping the future of learning.
