The World of History Education at your Finger Tips - registrations open for the HISTOLAB Digital Hub

via www.coe-histolab.eu

The HISTOLAB Joint Project of the European Union and Council of Europe, announces the launch of its HISTOLAB Digital Hub, an interactive co-operation platform created to facilitate knowledge exchange, professional development and innovation in history education.

As voiced by many stakeholders in history education, there was a need to gather and make available information on contacts and events of organisations, initiatives, and experts in this field, as well as the vast number of resources related to history education. With the overall aim to improve history education, this work culminates in April 2023 as a Digital Hub at http://www.coe-histolab.eu

The new Digital Hub features various components with current and expected resources available to support exchanges and to pave the way towards co-operation and the creation of a pool of expertise.

It offers the following features:

  • Resource Hub (Repository of Resources related to History Education) that collates relevant resources for history educators and history education researchers;
  • an interactive History Education Calendar and Digital Bulletin Board enabling registered users to post and promote their events, projects, new publications and work opportunities; and
  • directory of HISTOLAB members (HIST-CONNECT) a publicly available database of experts and organisations doing research in the field of history education that facilitates the search for potential project partners worldwide.

To access most features on the Digital Hub, registration is required. This is open to the following categories of profiles:

  • Academic, Researcher or Consultant experienced in the field of History Education
  • Teacher or Museum Professional with experience and active engagement in research or cooperation projects in the field of history education
  • Journalist with a focus on history
  • An institution active in the field of history education

The HISTOLAB Digital Hub is in beta version – some features will be continuously updated - as registered users join the platform. A series of short videos demonstrating its features will be made available in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, for all questions or support related to the hub, do not hesitate to contact the HISTOLAB team!

History Education and the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe's work on history education is founded on the assumption that understanding the past is essential for building a shared future, for fostering European democracies and for strengthening active democratic citizenship. Our vision and motto is: Teaching History, Grounding Democracy. History teaching that is based on multiperspectivity, historical thinking and on the values of the Council of Europe can enhance students’ critical thinking skills, democratic competences and empathy – all of which are essential for generations of young citizens that value democracy. At the moment, four distinct initiatives complement each other in tackling history education in a comprehensive manner: the intergovernmental project on history education, the Observatory on History Teaching in Europe, the HISTOLAB Joint Project of the European Union and the Council of Europe, and the Remembrance of the Holocaust and Prevention of Crimes against Humanity programme. Click on any of the boxes below to learn more about each initiative.
