The Roma commemorate this tragedy on 2 August, the date on which over 3,000 Roma men, women and children were exterminated in gas chamber V of the "Zigeunerlager BIII" at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944. The extermination of Roma during the Second World War is by far the greatest tragedy in Roma history.
