On 6 December, the Execution Department coorganised with the Human Rights National Implementation Division (DGI) and the Academy for Training of Judges and Public Prosecutors of North Macedonia a seminar on Article 5 of the European Convention. The event gathered around 20 judges and public prosecutors from North Macedonia dealing with pre-trial cases.

The Execution Department presented the outstanding issues in the implementation of European Court’s judgments in the Vasilkoski group relating to insufficient reasoning of decisions extending pre-trial detention and lack of equality of arms in the proceedings reviewing applicants’ detention.

Speakers included lawyers from the Registry of the European Court, a judge from the Supreme Court of North Macedonia and the Government Agent.
