On 18 May Ilia State University organised an online discussion with the support of the Council of Europe in order to mark the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
The guest speaker for the online discussion was Lela Akiashvili, Advisor on Human Rights and Gender Equality to the Prime Minister of Georgia, who talked about fundamental human rights enforcement mechanisms, especially regarding vulnerable groups. Participants raised questions related to the LGBT community needs in the context of the pandemic and the response of the government through the anti-crisis plan.
The event was organised in the framework of the ‘I Choose Equality’ campaign run by the co-operation project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019 with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP).
