Celebrating project progress with Malta’s Attorney General and State Advocate offices

The European Union and the Council of Europe, together with representatives of Maltese authorities partner institutions held an annual Conference in the context of the EU-CoE Joint Project “Attorney General and State Advocate in Malta - Implementation of action plan of offices re-organisation. The event aimed to take stock of the progress and main results achieved by the project during its first year and discuss future activities in 2024 and 2025.

The EU and the CoE are supporting the State Advocate and Attorney General Offices in enhancing their operational independence and effectiveness following their separation in 2019.

It includes continuous training and development of office staff, as well as the integration of modern ICT tools to enhance efficiency and service delivery. These efforts are essential for building a robust and independent justice system that can serve Malta's citizens more effectively.

The event brought together a range of national stakeholders with a view of fostering collaboration and further co-ordinate project activities with other ongoing initiatives of the Maltese authorities. The project covers various areas of importance, including operational processes, performance measurement, internal strategies, and communication efforts aimed at improving public trust, accountability, and transparency of the Offices.

The commitment to improving the efficiency of both institutions and overall justice system in Malta remains strong as the project moves into its next phase.

The Project is co-funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission.
