Back Execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights with special focus on cases on Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights

A roundtable meeting on the topic related to execution of judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) was organized on 15th December in Skopje. Representatives of the judiciary, members of the inter-sectorial committee on execution of the judgments on national level, representatives from relevant ministries, law-enforcement officials and representatives of NGOs participated at this event.

The event was designed as a one-day discussion forum to present the role of the national institutions in the process of execution of judgments of the Court and cooperation between the Bureau for representation in front of the Court and the Council of Europe Department for Execution of Judgments. National institutions had the opportunity to present their respective roles and competencies, including practical experience in supporting the execution of judgments of the Court.

The overall objective was to facilitate the process of execution of relevant judgments of the Court related to Article 3 of the the European Convention on Human Rights (the Convention), such as El- Masri, Hajrulahu, Kitanovski. Moreover, it aimed at raising awareness and strengthening the cooperation between the institutions on national level as a part of the national Inter-sectorial Committee.

This roundtable meeting was organized as part of the Action for “Increasing judicial capacity to safeguard human rights and combat ill-treatment and impunity under European Union/Council of Europe Horizontal Facility Programme.
