Back Expert Meetings enhancing the Execution of the European Court of Human Rights Judgments in Moldova

On 13 December 2017 expert meetings between the office of the Government Agent of the Republic of Moldova before the European Court of Human Rights (GA), Moldovan criminal justice stakeholders and the Council of Europe Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (Execution Department) took place at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova.

The GA faces several issues related to the execution of the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) judgments and its reporting to the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers. Therefore, this meeting aimed to enhance the capacities of the GA to increase the effectiveness of the execution of the Court’s judgments against Moldova in criminal justice area.

The expert meetings consisted of two parts. The first part was an expert meeting between the GA office and the representatives of the Execution Department. They discussed issues connected with the execution of the main cases against Moldova, effective general and individual measures, as well as other operational matters related to effective cooperation of the two institutions.

The second part of the day consisted of a round table discussion with the participation of the GA office, Execution Department and Moldovan criminal justice stakeholders. Several issues were addressed, among which the challenges of execution of specific categories of cases and also the need to enhance the cooperation and coordination between the Moldovan criminal justice stakeholders with the GA office in the light of the execution of the Court’s judgments.

The expert meetings were organised within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Support to the Criminal Justice Reforms in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the Government of Denmark, as a follow-up to previous actions undertaken under the project to facilitate the effectiveness of the execution of the Court’s judgments in criminal justice field.
