Lithuanian Courts Benefit from Speech Recognition Technology to Expedite Legal Proceedings

With the aim of streamlining legal proceedings, the TJENI project has supported the National Courts Administration (NCA) of Lithuania to integrate speech recognition software into its court infrastructure. The implementation of this tool resulted in the reduce of the workload of court staff and judges who have been engaged in the cumbersome task of manually transcribing audio recordings of court hearings in order to clarify statements made by parties in court proceedings. With the use of speech recognition technology, this labour-intensive process will be replaced by automated transcription, freeing up human resources that can be reallocated to activities aimed at improving the transparency and consistency of the Lithuanian judiciary.

This shift towards automation not only promises to speed up the legal process, but also underlines Lithuania's commitment to using technology to improve its justice system. By implementing speech recognition software, Lithuanian courts are committing to a more efficient administration of justice.

The project “Foster Transparency of Judicial Decisions and Enhancing the National Implementation of the ECHR” is implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by the EEA and Norway Grants fund for Regional Cooperation.
