Back Major steps in modernisation of the Civil Procedure Rules of Cyprus are made

On 8 December 2021 the Final Conference under the European Union - Council of Europe Joint Project on "Enhancing the Current Reform of the Court System and the Implementation Process as well as the Efficiency of Justice in Cyprus" took place in Nicosia. The Conference brought together representatives of the Council of Europe, European Commission, the Ministry of Justice of Cyprus, the Supreme Court of Cyprus, the Judges Association and the Cypriot Bar Association. The event was organised to acknowledge the main achievements of Project and pay tribute to the Director of Reform and the Supreme Court of Cyprus for their commitment to the action, as well as to the Directorate General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) of the European Commission and the Council of Europe for the constant support during the Project’s implementation.

The adoption of the new Rules of Civil Procedure is one of its main outputs of the Project, together with the communication strategy aimed at raising awareness on the new Civil Procedure Rules and the overall reform process, the change management strategy and trainings on the main principles and novelties in the new Rules. The achievements under the Project are expected to contribute to the improvement of the judicial proceedings, strengthening of human rights and the Rule of Law in Cyprus. This joint Project proved to be a success story of sound cooperation between two international Organisations in these important areas.
