From May 28 to 31, 2024, the Council of Europe and the EU project "Pravo-Justice" (Phase III), in collaboration with the Office of the Prosecutor General, held discussion sessions on practical aspects of international cooperation at the Prosecutors Training Center of Ukraine. The target audience for these sessions included prosecutors from the International Cooperation Department of the Office of the Prosecutor General and representatives from regional prosecutor's offices who handle issues of international legal assistance and extradition.
The discussion sessions focused on practical matters related to the preparation, sending, and execution of requests within the framework of international legal assistance, as well as effective communication between the parties making and executing such requests. Speakers at the event included representatives from the International Cooperation Department of the Office of the Prosecutor General, experts from international organizations with practical experience in the field, Eurojust, the International Criminal Court, and Interpol.
The national consultant of the Council of Europe, Mr Nazar Kulchytskyy, presented to the prosecutors on the topic of adhering to Council of Europe standards during the initiation and execution of requests for international legal assistance and extradition.
The discussion sessions organised for representatives of regional prosecutor's offices are a continuation of consistent measures aimed at supporting prosecution units responsible for international cooperation. The event was attended by 54 prosecutors (14 women and 40 men).
The discussion sessions were organised within the framework of the Council of Europe project "Fostering Human Rights in the Criminal Justice System in Ukraine", which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine "Resilience, Recovery, and Reconstruction" (2023-2026).
