The first training for Cypriot lawyers on the new Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) took place on 22 September 2021. The online session was designed to present the most important changes to be introduced by the new Rules, putting emphasis on the change of culture and new approach to civil procedure.

This training is the first out of a series of trainings for Cypriot judges, lawyers, registrars, and court staff that will be held weekly until December 2021 in order to provide explanations on the new Rules and new philosophy linked to them before the Rules entrance into force.

The trainings were launched with participation of and will be conducted by three judges and two lawyers from the UK and Ireland: his Honour Nic Madge (Lead Expert Trainer of the Project, formerly Circuit Judge and senior trainer with the English and Welsh Judicial College), Sir John Gillen (formerly Lord Justice of Northern Ireland Court of Appeal), Mr Justice Seamus Noonan (Judge at the Court of Appeal, Ireland), and two barristers at Forum Chambers practicing in London: Mr David McIlroy and Mr Darragh Connell. Cypriot trainers facilitated case studies and moderated the discussions during the breakout sessions.

The training was organised by the Cyprus School for Judicial Training and the Cyprus Bar Association in cooperation with the Council of Europe, under the Project on "Enhancing the Current Reform of the Court System and the Implementation Process as well as the Efficiency of Justice. This Project is funded by the EU via the Structural Reform Support Programme and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission.
