On 2-4 December, project organized workshop on Stress/anger Management and Emotional Self-control with staff members of the Kosovo* Correctional Service. The activity was follow-up to recommendations of European Committee for Prevention of Torture (CPT) and National Preventive Mechanism against Torture (NPM) regarding investment in working conditions and wellbeing of correctional staff, as important elements for prevention of torture and ill-treatment.
Correctional officers and resocialisation staff assigned to detention centers in Pristina, Mitrovica, Lipjan/Lipljan, Pejë/Peć, Smrekonicë/Smrekovnica, Gjilan/Gnjilane and High Security Prison in Podujeva/Podujevo learned techniques and practical skills to effectively cope the stress accumulated in everyday work as well as to prevent professional burnout and establish quality communication with prisoners, in line with requirements of the dynamic security concept. Specific attention was given to prevention of violence, conflict resolution, inmates’ self-harm and suicide prevention strategies, personal and inmates’ motivation and other relevant aspects.
The workshop was facilitated with support of local expert, teacher of the Faculty of Psychology in Mitrovica, who is author of the manual which served as reference material for the training. The project "Strengthening the Kosovo* Institution in Fight against Torture, Ill-treatment and Other Degrading Treatment" is funded by Norway and implemented by the Council of Europe.
