As a part of dedicated police training program, 23 police officers improved their knowledge and skills in documenting, analysing and qualifying hate speech cases in line with European standards and with the Council of Europe recommendations. Ultimate aim of this activities is to address the widespread occurrence of hate speech, and to ensure a prompt and professional intervention of competent investigative agents for combating hate speech incidents and its harmful impact on Moldovan society.
This two-day peer-to-peer training that was conducted by the Council of Europe in partnership with the General Inspectorate of Police, contributed to enhancement of established working methods of police officers related to hate speech, but also allowed for exchange on the efficiency of legal remedies against incitement to discrimination and hatred and ways ahead for more efficient investigations of hate speech incidents, in line with the European standards, including the Council of Europe Recommendation of the Committee of Ministers to member States on combating hate speech.
This event was organised in partnership with the General Police Inspectorate, as part of the Council of Europe project “Promoting non-discrimination in the Republic of Moldova’’ and of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova”.
