Intercultural Cities in Quebec: Inclusive Practices in Multi-ethnic Settings

Last January, the Quebec Network of Municipalities on Immigration and Intercultural Relations (RÉMIRI)[1] and the The Laboratory for Research on Intercultural Relations of the University of Montreal (LABBRI) announced the publication of the book entitled "Villes interculturelles au Québec : Pratiques d'inclusion en contexte pluriethnique" (Intercultural Cities in Quebec: Inclusive Practices in Multi-ethnic Settings). This publication is the result of a collaborative effort between researchers and practitioners, which was recognised in the frame of the Excellence Award of the Quebec institute of public administration for which it was a finalist.

The book addresses the issue of intercultural policies and practices in different municipalities in Quebec and aims to provide practitioners with new tools and concepts, and researchers with information on intercultural and institutional dynamics in the field. It includes various case studies providing detailed information on intercultural policies in the cities of Gatineau, Laval, Longueuil, Montreal, Quebec City, Repentigny, Saguenay and Sherbrooke.

Following the launch of the book, a series of workshops were organised in connection with the cross-cutting themes of the book. A first meeting was held in March 2023 and two others are planned for April and May 2023. An in-person meeting of RÉMIRI members on 16 June 16 in Saguenay will conclude this series of exchanges.
