Rijeka participates in the Croatian Cities for Equality project

The Cities4Equality project proposes to investigate the current level of diversity management, and other policies, procedures, programmes and practices directed at equality and non-discrimination at the local government level in Croatia. The research methods to be used are: (a) desk review of existing policy, legal, and administrative framework; (b) survey of diversity management practices in cities; and (c) development of case studies of best practices.

The insights acquired through research will be used for the development of tools and instruments for the use of local government units in improving their diversity management, and equality and non-discrimination performance. Those tools and instruments will also represent the focal points of the advocacy, communication, and awareness raising efforts envisaged under the project.

They are:

  • A set of indicators of equality and non-discrimination at the local level, which can be used for diversity management purposes at city level;
  • A Cities4Equality Manual, which may serve as the resource for cities wishing to improve their performance in this area;
  • and a Cities4Equality Index, where the rating and recognition of cities’ performance is used as incentive for improvement of existing practices, awareness raising on the role of local government in ensuring equality and non-discrimination, and the importance and benefits of diversity management in this context.

The project will be implemented in partnership between Croatian Law Centre as the applicant, and the Association of Cities.
