Council of Europe's expert group on violence against women visits Luxembourg

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to Luxembourg from 24 to 27 October 2022. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by Luxembourg of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with representatives from different Ministries and public bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies, the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, the Ministry of Equality between Women and Men, the Ministry of Family, Integration and the Greater Region the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Internal Security, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, the Interministerial Committee for Human Rights, the Committee for Co-operation between Professionals in the Fight against Violence. In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of non‑governmental organisations and civil society working in the area of violence against women and national human rights institutions.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report on Luxembourg during 2023.
