10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Istanbul Convention
THROUGH THE LENS – A DECADE OF COMMITMENT TO THE ISTANBUL CONVENTION
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention), this photography exhibition illustrates the most far-reaching treaty designed for the protection and support of women and girls from all forms of violence.
Telling a story of advocacy, progress and challenges, each photograph encapsulates a particular aspect of the convention. Together, they demonstrate what the monitoring mechanism of the Istanbul Convention has found over the past ten years of implementation. This monitoring mechanism consists of GREVIO – the independent Group of Experts tasked with monitoring the implementation of the convention in each Party - and the Committee of the Parties which issues recommendations on the basis of GREVIO’s findings.
Through the lens of photography, the achievements and challenges faced in the implementation of the Istanbul Convention are highlighted. These images not only document milestones achieved but also serve as a reminder of the work that lies ahead in preventing and combating violence against women.
