The high-level conference “United around gender equality: making space for women and girls” organised by the Council of Europe under the aegis of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers will take place in Strasbourg, on 30 May 2024.
The event will be opened by Justina Jakštienė, Vice-Minister of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania and Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and bring together many leading figures, among them the internationally renowned feminist campaigner, Caroline Criado Perez, author of “Invisible women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men”.
The conference will be officially launching the Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2024-2029 and marking the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).
Through the lens of key actors and professionals working on the ground and with a focus on the achievements identified in the convention’s monitoring, the afternoon session will bring to life the practical change the Istanbul Convention is effecting on the ground.
We will celebrate the progress made throughout the decade of the Convention’s implementation, ten years after its entry into force.
