The full-scale war launched by Russia against Ukraine has affected the lives of millions of Ukrainians. It immensely influenced the social and economic landscape of the Council of Europe member States. The protection of social human rights during the war has gained particular importance.
On 3 July 2024, the Council of Europe project “Enhanced social protection in Ukraine”, implemented within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” for 2023-2026, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of Lithuania, is organizing the event “Protecting Social Rights in Times of War in Ukraine” in Vilnius.
The event aims to discuss the importance of protecting social rights in times of war in Ukraine, the role of the European Social Charter in aligning Ukrainian legislation with the EU acquis, and the protection of children's rights in the broader context of the war in Ukraine.
The event will take place prior to the High-Level Conference on the European Social Charter, organised by the Council of Europe under the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
The event “Protecting Social Rights in Times of War in Ukraine” will bring together the representatives from the authorities of Ukraine, Lithuania, and other Council of Europe member states, members of the European Committee of Social Rights, international experts, representatives of the Council of Europe, civil society organisations, media and others.
The Council of Europe project “Enhanced social protection in Ukraine” will provide simultaneous interpretation into Ukrainian, English, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian sign language.
The event will be held in a hybrid format. We invite all interested to join it online. Please fill out the registration form by 28 June 2024. A confirmation email with a link to the broadcast will be sent to registered participants on 1 July 2024.
The Council of Europe project “Enhanced social protection in Ukraine” is aimed to attain that persons from vulnerable groups, including war-affected population in Ukraine, enjoy improved level of social rights and social protection.
