In Europe one in five children is a victim of sexual violence, including sexual abuse. In this regard, in 2010, the Council of Europe launched the "One in Five" campaign aimed at raising awareness on combating sexual exploitation and abuse
One of the by-products of the Kiko and the Hand story is the "Kiko and the Hand" educational and methodological training for trainers manual for kindergarten and pre-school teachers on detecting and reporting sexual abuse and exploitation. The manual has been translated and adapted for the use in the Ukrainian institutions within the framework of the Project "Combating violence against children in Ukraine".
On 23 and 25 June 2021 the Council of Europe Project "Combating violence against children in Ukraine Phase II", held an online methodological workshop "Protective teachers - protected children".
The objective of the workshop was to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and ideas to run sessions for prevention of child sexual abuse and to pass their knowledge to their peers and fellow educators.
Goals:
- introduce participants to the concept of “sexual abuse”;
- analyse the main myths and facts about child sexual abuse;
- Introduce the specific aspects of detecting and responding to sexual abuse of children;
- outline the specifics of conducting “Kiko and the Hand” classes in a group of children and with the involvement of parents.
We thank the trainers-facilitators of the workshop, national experts of the Project Olena Nahula - PhD in psychological sciences, and Tetyana Tsyuman - PhD in pedagogical sciences.
