The Council of Europe project “Combating Violence against women in Ukraine – Phase III” (COVAW-III) started on 1 April 2025. COVAW-III builds upon previous Council of Europe initiatives in Ukraine starting in 2013. It aims at supporting development of robust policies to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence as well as promoting gender equality in line with the standards of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (the Istanbul Convention).
The COVAW-III project focuses on two key aspects: violence against women and gender equality, both rooted in Council of Europe standards. COVAW-III will support the implementation process of the Istanbul Convention, and the knowledge and mechanisms created will contribute to better protection of women's human rights in Ukraine.
The COVAW-III project is designed in line with the priorities of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” (2023-2026). Its objectives and activities will be presented at the Council of Europe Steering Committee meeting on the implementation of the Action Plan for Ukraine on 20 May 2025.
