The Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, better known as the Istanbul Convention, came into force for Ukraine on 1 November 2022. To mark the 1st anniversary of this significant milestone, the Council of Europe published a series of short interviews with key Ukrainians, as a part of the global campaign of 16 Days of activism against gender-based violence which takes place between the 25 November and the 10 December each year.
Fifteen well known decision-makers and leaders representing the Ministries of Ukraine, the National Police, NGOs and Associations focused on violence against women, as well as mass media joined the Council of Europe in calling for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls, in particular in the context of the war in Ukraine
Interviews were developed under the Council of Europe project “Combating Violence against Women in Ukraine – Phase II (COVAW-II)”.
