The Council of Europe project “Promoting gender equality in Ukraine” (Pro-GE) was launched through its first Steering Committee meeting on 22 February 2024. Representatives from the Ukrainian government, international organisations, civil society organisations and the Council of Europe joined forces to work towards a more equal Ukraine. Participants stressed the importance of ensuring alignment with international conventions and standards, and co-operation between stakeholders.
Recognising the critical role of gender equality in both Ukraine's post-war recovery and its international commitments, the project aims to support implementation of Ukraine's national strategies as well as the Council of Europe's Gender Equality Strategy.
The Council of Europe prioritises the promotion of gender equality in Ukraine, as seen in the 2023-2026 Action Plan for Ukraine and our new Gender Equality Strategy for 2024-2029, which Ukrainian authorities are working to implement.
