On November 1, 2022, an online meeting between Steen Nørlov, Head of Office, the Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the coordination of cooperation programmes of the Council of Europe, and Yevhen Zakharov,  Chairman of the Management Board of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights was held. The parties discussed the protection of human rights, accountability for war crimes, democratic development and the importance of civil society in Ukraine during times of war.

The Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine highlighted the importance of the mission of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union and emphasized the significance of developing further cooperation in protecting human rights. "We are grateful to the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights for its incredible work. The Council of Europe stands with its partners!" Mr Nørlov stated.

At the end of the meeting, the parties underlined the need for further development of cooperation.
