The Council of Europe new Recommendation on ensuring equality of Roma and Traveller women and girls outlines concrete measures to ensure Roma and Traveller women and girls have equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and housing, and addresses challenges such as discrimination, violence, harmful stereotypes, and extreme poverty.
The CoE calls on countries to tackle these issues head-on and create a safe and equal environment where Roma and Traveller women and girls can flourish. In addition, the Recommendation underscores the importance of including Roma and Traveller women and girls in shaping policies and programmes that affect them directly. Their voices and perspectives are crucial for crafting effective solutions.
Translation of the Recommendation was provided through the Council of Europe project “Promoting Gender Equality in Ukraine” (Pro-GE).
