A comprehensive methodology and checklist for civil society organisation (CSOs) to run communication/advocacy campaigns to promote the Istanbul Convention have been developed and are now available in Ukrainian. This convention, formally known as the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, aims to eliminate gender-based violence against women.
The methodology, jointly developed by the Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Division, the Women Against Violence Europe Network (WAVE) and UN Women, equips CSOs with advocacy resources and tools to run communication and advocacy campaigns on the Istanbul Convention, generating positive narratives, and debunking the myths and stereotypes regarding the Istanbul Convention.
Awareness raising projects have already been conducted by CSOs in Bulgaria, Czechia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, and will soon also be featured in Serbia.
Translation of the methodology into Ukrainian took place under the Council of Europe project “Combating violence against women in Ukraine – Phase II” (COVAW-II).
