In 2020 the practice “Creating a system of educational and correctional services to provide comprehensive support to children with special educational needs in the city of Chuhuiv, Kharkiv oblast” won the Contest “Best Practices of Local Self-Government” (the first-degree Diploma).

One of the most important areas of social work of Chuhuiv City Council is the care of children with special needs. To create a single inclusive educational space for them and ensure equal access to quality preschool, school and extracurricular education, the city educational project “Development of inclusive education in the city of Chuhuiv” was approved.

Today there are two specialised communal institutions in the city. “Centre for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Children with Disabilities “CHANCE” conducts rehabilitation activities aimed at creating conditions for the full development of children with disabilities and / or children under three years, who belong to the risk group for disability.

The second municipal institution – “Inclusive Resource Centre” – provides services for children aged 2 to 18: preschool and general secondary education, psychological and pedagogical assistance, providing systematic qualified support.

Inclusive resource centres of the city are available for children and youth with special needs in Chuhuiv, Chuguiv and Pechenih rayons and Kharkiv City.

The result of inclusive education is the success of children, their transfer to the general education programme, and from individual – to inclusive. More than ten children already succeeded to do so after two years of the centres’ work.
