On June 3, 2024, with the support of the Council of Europe in partnership with the Office of the Prosecutor General, a brainstorming session for the pilot project "Community Prosecutor" was held at the premises of the Prosecutors Training Center of Ukraine.

Prosecutors participating in the pilot project discussed the next steps in the implementation of the project and the challenges that this initiative may potentially face given the current security situation in Ukraine, as well as the needs and specifics of individual communities.

During the brainstorming session, Volodymyr Petrakovskyi, a national consultant of the Council of Europe, presented to the participants. His presentation was devoted to updating the guidelines for the "Community Prosecutor" initiative, an important focus area for the prosecutor's office.

The event was attended by 22 prosecutors (8 women and 14 men).

Background:

On August 11, 2023, Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin signed the concept of the "Community Prosecutor" project, which aims to improve the interaction of prosecutorial bodies with other state bodies and representatives of civil society within communities. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to increase the level of safety in communities and, consequently, improve the quality of life of its residents.

The implementation of the Concept will proceed according to an approved plan of priority measures, which provides for the completion of several important stages. Among them is the development of security strategies based on conducted crime research and the subsequent implementation of the developed tools within the pilot phase, planned to be carried out in four regions of Ukraine.

The brainstorming session was supported within the framework of the Council of Europe project "Fostering Human Rights in the Criminal Justice System in Ukraine", which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine "Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction" (2023-2026).
