Practices of youth work in conditions of war in other countries: the second meeting of youth workers in Ukraine

On April 8, the second meeting of youth workers of Ukraine took place. The second meeting is devoted to familiarization and discussion of the experience of youth work in other countries in war and post-war times and the possibilities of its application by youth workers in Ukraine to respond to the challenges that arose as a result of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The organizers of the series of meetings are the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Council of Europe Project "Youth for Democracy in Ukraine", the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine, State Institute of Family and Youth Policy.

Youth workers of Ukraine met with Kai Brand-Jacobsen, Romanian Peace Institute (PATRIR), executive director of the initiative "All for Ukraine: Global Humanitarian Response and Support for Refugees", winner of the Mahatma Gandhi-Martin Luther King Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award. Kai shared his 25 years of experience working in war-torn communities and countries. He has worked in Northern Ireland, Moldova, Iraq, Syria, Darfur, Cyprus, Afghanistan, Colombia, Nepal and other war-torn countries of the world.

Practical issues of working with young refugees were discussed with Cihan Kılıç, a member of the board of the European network of refugees - Voices of Young Refugees in Europe (VYRE) in 2013-2019, a trainer of the Youth Department of the Council of Europe.

VYRE is an international network created by and for young refugees to unite and amplify the voices of individual young refugees and organizations in Europe. It all started in Strasbourg in December 2006 with the training seminar "Being a young refugee in Europe today", organized by the Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Council of Europe in cooperation with the UNHCR within the framework of the European campaign "All different - all equal".

VYRE focuses its efforts on empowering young refugees to create their own refugee organizations to gather needs and concerns related to access rights for use in the advocacy process.
