Joint activities of “Magnolia –Ukraine” and Council of Europe Office in Ukraine
On the occasion of the European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse and with the support of the Council of Europe project “Combating violence against women and children in Ukraine”, NGO Magnolia conducted a multimedia awareness-raising campaign to raise public awareness on child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in Ukraine and how to prevent it.

The awareness-raising campaign included:

  • TV programme “Vidkrytm Tekstom” (“Speak Out”) and its live broadcasting on CHP Info Channel with involvement of experts and organisations that work on protection of children’s rights. Live broadcasting was aired on CHP.Info Channel on 16.11.2017 (at 19:40). Repeated broadcasting of the programme was aired on the following dates: 16.11.2017 (at 21 40 and 23 40), 17.11.2017 (at 17 00 and 18 00), 18.11.2017 (at 16 00 and at 22 00), and 19.11.2017 (at 4 00 and at 10 00 ).
  • Creating audio and video content and its placement on magnolia-tv.com, Magnolia-TV/Youtube, Magnolia Radio Channel, and in social media. Placement of the “Vidkrytym Tekstom” (“Speak Out”) radio programme on Magnolia Radio.Audio content of the “Vidkrytym Tekstom” (“Speak Out”) programme was broadcasted on Magnolia Online Radio (10 repeats).
  • Creating an interactive video blog and its placement on TV. Topic of the blog: promoting the open discussion of children’s protection against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse. The blog was broadcasted on CHP.Info Channel on the following dates: 18.11.2017 (at 11.38, 12.43, 13.38, 14.43, 15.38, 17.38, 18.48, 19.38, 20.48, 21.38, 23.48), 19.11.2017 (at 00.43, 1.38, 2 43, 3.38, 5.38, 6.43, 7.38, 8.43, 9.38)

Fact finding mission on mapping the recent and existing initiatives to raise awareness on violence against women and domestic violence took place in July 2017 in Kyiv

In the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Combating violence against women and children in Ukraine” (hereinafter – the Project) was organised a fact finding mission devoted to mapping the recent and existing initiatives to raise awareness on violence against women that took place in Kyiv, Ukraine on 20-21 July 2017.

Taking into consideration the suggestions put forward by the Ukrainian authorities and the needs assess during the fact-finding mission to Ukraine that took place in April 2017, the project foresees the development of a long-term strategy for sustained communication and awareness-raising measures though the provision of a blueprint containing recommendations and practical tools to promote zero tolerance for violence against women in Ukraine. The blueprint provided by the expert will be based on the mapping of the recent and existing awareness-raising initiatives on violence against women/gender equality in Ukraine implemented by the authorities, NGOs, international organisations, etc and will be carried out in cooperation with national expert/s and national authorities, media, social services and civil society.

During the above mentioned fact finding mission, Ms Karin Heisecke, International expert on preventing and combating domestic violence together with Marta Becerra, Program Advisor, Department on gender equality and human dignity of the Council of Europe visited Kyiv conducted a series of meeting with the following stakeholders of the Project: Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, civil society organisations and media and private sector representatives. During the meetings questions of complex awareness raising strategy and practical tools for advocating zero tolerance towards violence against women in Ukraine, were discussed.
