On 21 November 2022, the Council of Europe (CoE), in cooperation with the National School of Judges (NSJ), organised a webinar on derogation from the obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights in the context of armed conflicts. Judges of different court instances as well as prosecutors of the War Crimes Department of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine participated in the webinar.
The event included presentations from the CoE experts: Mr Dmytro Tretyakov, Deputy Registrar of the Administrative Tribunal of the Council of Europe, Senior Lawyer of the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights, Mr Jeremy McBride, barrister, member of the CoE Expert Advisory Group to the OPG, Dr. Gaiane Nuridzhanian, Senior Lecturer, National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy, and Lilian Apostol, international consultant of the Council of Europe.

The event was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Projects “Support for judicial institutions and processes to strengthen access to justice in Ukraine”, “Human Rights Compliant Criminal Justice System in Ukraine”, which are part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2022, and “Ensuring the effective implementation of the right to a fair trial (Article 6 of the ECHR) in Ukraine”, which is funded by the Human Rights Trust Fund (HRTF).
