This training unit (TU), developed in the Pestalozzi Programme in the Education for the prevention of discrimination (DISC) module, consists of four activities, including an assessment session for initial and in-service training.
The main aim of the TU is to recognize and discuss stereotyping in everyday teaching practice as well as find ways of preventing discrimination in a classroom.
Participants are trained how to identify explicitly and implicitly hostile attitudes towards people who are perceived as “different” and recognise it as something teachers should avoid. They are also empowered with the knowledge of key concepts relating to diversity and intercultural understanding (prejudice, stereotype, discrimination, racism, identity, intolerance, culture) to actively participate in the prevention of discrimination campaign, concentrating on the prevention of teachers’ stereotyping in their everyday practice.
