Back How does democratic citizenship/human rights education contribute to sustainable development?

This unit developed within the Pestalozzi Programme, strengthens understanding of:

  • the concept of sustainable development within Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education  (EDC/HRE),
  • human rights that form the basis of sustainable development,
  • the level of contribution from different sectors of society to establish sustainable development,
  • the problems that exist in this sphere and ways of solving them.

The unit can be used at initial or in-service training of teachers of secondary education. Practitioners have the opportunity to reflect on the link between sustainable development and EDC/HRE in an engaging way through role-play, visualisation, group work, problem solving, induction and deduction strategies, among others. Hence, they can transfer the structure or activities into their classrooms.
