This training unit, developed in the Pestalozzi Programme, looks into how our own values influence our actions and assessments. Teachers are invited to reflect upon and discuss how the difference between their values and the values of pupils might influence their assessment. A further issue explored is how to ensure that assessment is objective; what kind of assessments should be used in order to be fair and reflect our students’ progress in learning? The unit also looks into how to incorporate, in assessment, the development of our pupils’ social skills, so as to encourage their progress towards social competence. Finally, participants ensure differentiation between assessment and evaluation, and clarify the objectives and criteria that they should meet.
