This resource offers materials, methods and examples to make participants aware of how their own stereotypes and prejudices can negatively interfere with choices and attitudes. The unit employs a number of reflexive methods to help participants see situations from different perspectives and become more flexible in terms of accepting and appreciating otherness. It helps teaching professionals to reflect on how they influence tolerance, open-mindedness, democratic awareness and the democratic environment in schools and classrooms. It also increases awareness and prevention of discrimination among learners and teachers.
The resource can be used during initial training as well as in-service training of teachers of various subjects, across curricula, who teach in secondary and upper-secondary schools. It is also useful for direct classroom use by the individual teacher.
