This resource introduces options and ideas to create a learning environment in which learners understand the concept and the relevance of democratic culture and share their own values, attitudes, skills and knowledge with each other, thus developing basic democratic competences.
This unit encourages learners to employ analytical and critical thinking skills, reflect on their own attitudes and knowledge of education, and practice their skills in respect and openness of cultural otherness, world views, beliefs and practices. It also helps develop tolerance of ambiguity, responsibility and autonomous learning skills.
This resource is of practical use in different school subjects and helps teachers to introduce competences for Democratic Culture in their classrooms. Methods used in this unit include texts for analysis, poster design, group work (speaking circles), collaborative work and role-play methods as well as a self-assessment answer sheet to allow learners to reflect on their own learning progress.
