This resource presents the results of a 2005 conference of experts on teaching and learning history. It reports on the workshops on the use of historical sources in the teaching of the cultural and social history of Cyprus.
It contains complete lesson plans and materials on the following topics: Child labour in Cyprus, the 19th century marketplace in Cyprus, and the role of women in history using the example of 19th and 20th century wedding traditions in Cyprus. These examples, from multicultural Cyprus, are central topics in history teaching (i.e. labour history, social history and the history of women). The resource is aimed at developing students' analytical, critical and conclusion-drawing skills as well as tolerance and respect for different cultures.
The resource offers a selection of practical materials that can be used during initial training as well as in-service training of history teachers working with pupils in secondary or tertiary education as well as in their classrooms in everyday history teaching.
