This Pestalozzi training unit (TU) consists of one activity, including an assessment session for in-service training.
The activity is based on the domains of emotional intelligence and controlling your impulses. It offers teachers the opportunity to: develop awareness of their “world views” and people’s limitations, and put them into question; identify explicitly and implicitly hostile attitudes and feelings towards people who are different, or not recognised as a part of a majority; observe feelings and recognise them when they occur; handle feelings so that they are appropriate; realise what is behind the feelings; find ways to handle fears and anxieties, such as anger and sadness; and develop the ability to share ideas and accept others’ opinions as equal to our own.
The TU is implemented by increasing awareness of the importance of the creation of an optimal educational environment and the provision of a non-threatening situation, in any sphere, to avoid discouraging self-development, self-esteem, self-worth or self-confidence.
