This unit refers to Human Rights (HR) and Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC) principles, and their application in everyday life, at home, in school, and in local community. It focuses on knowledge building (conventions, national and international documents) and on competences and skills acquisition. EDC depends largely on teachers’ ability to introduce and explain new concepts and values to learners, facilitate the development of new skills and competences, and create the conditions which allow them to apply these skills and competences in all contexts. The unit deals with the application of principles as well as the transfer of skills and strategies. As such, the resources create opportunities for improving teaching methods in EDC and their application in the classroom context. The unit was developed within the Pestalozzi Programme and can be used at initial and in-service training of teachers of lower secondary education.
