On 27-31 May 2024, the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities held its 83rd plenary meeting in Strasbourg.
The Advisory Committee adopted its final opinions on the implementation of the Convention by Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and Montenegro. These opinions will become public in the autumn once the authorities' comments, if any, received.
The Advisory Committee also approved its draft opinions on the implementation of the Convention by Ireland and Lithuania, both of which will now undergo a confidential dialogue phase with the states parties concerned before being examined again and adopted at a forthcoming plenary session.
Finally, the ACFC adopted its revised Thematic Commentary on Education, which replaces the First Thematic Commentary on Education of 2006, as well as its 14th Biennial Activity Report. Both documents will be made public in the second semester of 2024.
This was the last plenary meeting of the Advisory Committee in its current composition. The mandates of eight of its 18 mandates will expire on 31 May 2024.
